Parents Code of Conduct

At Barton Rovers Football Club, we are committed to ensuring every child enjoys a safe, positive, and rewarding football experience. We recognise that children develop at different rates and respond differently to pressures — which is why the support and example set by parents and carers is so important.

We ask all parents and supporters to:

  • Remember that children play football for their enjoyment, not to fulfil adult ambitions.
  • Set a positive example through encouragement, support, and good sportsmanship at both training and matches.
  • Avoid coaching from the sidelines — teamwork, effort, and enjoyment are as important as results.
  • Accept both victory and defeat with grace: do not gloat when winning, and do not show undue disappointment when losing.
  • Never ridicule, criticise, or shout at a child for making a mistake. Instead, praise effort and good play — from both teams.
  • Show appreciation for the time and dedication of coaches and officials who make football possible.
  • Actively help create a safe environment by discouraging and challenging all forms of verbal or physical abuse.
  • Treat all players, coaches, officials, and supporters — whether from our Club or the opposition — with respect, regardless of race, religion, ability, or disability.
  • Respect the authority of match officials. Accept their decisions without public criticism and avoid words or actions that may mislead or undermine them.

By following this Code of Conduct, parents and supporters help ensure that football remains a fun, fair, and inclusive experience for every child.
