BARTON ROVERS RAIDERS U13 v BURGHFIELD
Score: 2 - 2
Alex Winn scored a goal in each half to give Barton Rovers Raiders a share of the spoils at home to Burghfield. After slipping the ball through the Burghfield goalkeepers legs for Barton’s opener, Alex doubled our lead when he pounced on a rebound after Nathan’s shot was superbly parried away. The ball fell kindly for Alex who gleefully turned the ball into the back of the net.
Nathan then set himself up when he burst into the penalty area, but the acute angle meant his shot cannoned off the post and away from danger. Two late goals, one a stunning strike, from set pieces allowed Burghfield back into it to make the final score 2-2. Goalkeeper Maciej Lipowski was the parents man of the match for yet another stellar performance between the sticks meanwhile Ross took the managers award for his timely tackles and great runs.
So, a thrilling encounter, superbly contested by two committed sides who attacked each others goalmouths almost at will.
We are immensely proud of the players because they really did put a shift in and we thoroughly deserved the point against a very good team.
Unbeaten in three now - enjoy the holiday break!

BARTON ROVERS VIKINGS U13S v BOYNE HILL VIPERS
Score: 2 - 2
The Pocket Rocket strikes again!
Turning out in their new kit sponsored by AM Property Management, we looked the part.
Within a minute the Vikings were 1-0 down. It took them a little while to re-gain their composure, but once they did, the Vikings were once again playing some excellent football. They should have had 5 in the first half but had to settle for 2. The first came from the Pocket Rocket Max Deverill, chasing the ball with a 20 yard run through the Vipers defence and finishing with a calmly taken chip of the Vipers Keeper, bringing the score to 1-1. 10 Minutes later, a fantastic through ball from Max into the path of Tommy Hodges. Tommy under pressure from 2 chasing defenders, taking an extra touch to adjust his stride, a powerful right foot shot - if you blinked you would have missed it - straight into the net at the far post. 2-1. Connor Cassidy, Ryan ward, Jack Lincoln & Connor Schofield working hard to put the pressure on the Vipers defence. They should have been rewarded with further goals.
Into the second half.... It's like we've been here before! The Vikings once again going flat for 20 minutes, conceding a goal to bring the Vipers equal 2-2. Oh that long ball again, we need to do something about it! Some solid defending from Dan Smith, Jamie Goldstone, Jack Peters & Jack Parmenter and with the help of that famous goal keeper - Will Everitt – they saved the Vikings bacon time and again. Once again the Vikings re-composed themselves and got back to playing football, but they could not break down the Vipers defence. Time for some changes. On came Simon & Sam Odjei-Baah and our very own Shrek (his choice of nick name). With a bit more weight behind the attack, we thought we could win it, a shot over the bar from Sam, a shot from Jack Parmenter just going wide, a little shoulder drop from Cass left the defender standing, a peach of a shot with his left, but unfortunately the ball went straight into the keeper’s hands.
Things were looking good for the Vikings, with the Vipers having problems getting out of their own half. Then the final whistle, if we only had the extra time UTD get!

The Vikings have managed to get their first point, and they deserved it! Man of the match went to Jack Parmenter, with special mentions going to Connor Cassidy, Max Deverill, Jack Peters, Connor Schofield and the famous one. All the boys deserve a mention and hopefully I have. Look forward and be proud of yourselves lads. You’re playing some great Football.

BOYNE HILL VIPERS v BARTON ROVERS RAIDERS U13
Score: 1 - 4
Another exciting match and another four goals in our favour. Credit to the boys as they put loads into the game. Strangely though, we had another slow start. Our hosts were more switched on in the opening minutes and reacted quicker to a loose ball before waltzing through our defence as if it wasn’t there, making us pay with a goal. But it wasn’t long before Jordan had us back on equal terms with a wonder strike. Again! This time he looped a curling shot from the edge of the box over the outstretched hands of the Vipers keeper and into the back of the net.
By now we were attacking with real purpose and two minutes after our first goal it was two, as Joseph burst down the left wing, cut into the box and just when it looked like the ball might run away from him, his outstretched leg poked the ball just inside the far post. When Matthew’s shot hit the cross bar following a short corner, we were really motoring. Alex M’s long throw found Nathan who let the ball run across his shoulder, he turned and fired the ball past the home keeper. 3-1, and daylight between us. Tristan then pulled a long distance shot just wide of the left hand post, but that didn’t deter him as it was his great wing play that set up Nathan who pounced after Tristan’s cross found him in the box. So a great first half ended 4-1 to us.
In the second period we made a lot of changes to give everyone a fair crack at the game. Even though we created some great chances we couldn’t find the back of the net. Marc wriggled himself free before forcing the keeper into an excellent save, whilst Alex W, Liam and Clayton all had chances to increase our lead, as they rampaged down the right wing.
The parents man of the match was Ryan, what a great performance at centreback. He headed the ball superbly, even setting a goal up with a header, and was well in control with interceptions and tackles. Alex W was the managers’ choice, he ran himself into the ground and caused their players all sorts of problems with his pace. Charged down everything and generally made life difficult for Boyne Hill. Well done lads.

BOYNE HILL HORNETS v BARTON ROVERS VIKINGS U13
Score: 7 - 4
An early misty morning start and without any prompting the Vikings started to warm themselves up. It was a very disappointing turnout for the Vikings with 4 no shows. 15 players due to turn out, but we had to play the full 70 minutes with a bare 11, Alex Jones the reserve goal keeper stepping into left back, having to play in his rain jacket just to keep the colours.
The Vikings attack started from the whistle. Playing the ball on the ground and with some superb passing, the Vikings were rewarded with 4 fantastic goals, 2 from Ryan Ward, 1 from Connor Cassidy and 1 from our very own pocket rocket, Max Devrill. This took the Vikings to 4 – 0 up. The Hornets battled back in the first half. Even with the superb efforts the Vikings goalie - the famous Will Everitt - they managed to squeeze 2 back before half time whistle.
The Vikings went into the second half 4–2 up. Reflecting on the first half performance we had high hopes for the newly formed Vikings, hoping we could carve out a thoroughly deserved win.
It was not to be, our bare 11 battled on, but the legs started to grow weary. With the Hornets luxury to role on, role off an ample supply of subs, a centre half that could possibly launch a medicine ball 60 yards and the use of the famous long ball, the Hornets were getting the better of us. The game came to an end with the Hornets scoring 5 in the second half, making it a disappointing 7-4 defeat.
Hats off to the Hornets coach who noticed the weakness and made us pay dearly. On the whole, it was a good morning’s football. It has never been so hard to choose a man of the match. Ryan Ward, Max Devrill & Connor Cassidy were in the running. Connor Cassidy won by a nose after consideration for his un-selfish offerings and his team spirit.

We are very proud of the boys efforts. They are showing great improvement every week and will start getting the wins we deserve. Come on Vikings, keep up the team spirit!

BARTON ROVERS RAIDERS U13 v BOYNE HILL HORNETS
Score: 4 - 0
Firstly we should pay tribute to all the boys from both sides who, despite the atrocious conditions, put in so much effort and made the game an entertaining one at rainsoaked Turnhams Farm, especially Boyne Hill who played the whole game with 10 men, so full credit to them.
As for the game itself, the first half was really even, and we struggled to get through their determined back line. Even though we had the extra man, it almost looked like the other way around, because time and time again we found ourselves up against lots of green shirts in their penalty area. Half time came and it was 0-0.
In the second half we tried to stretch them by getting the ball out wide and we got a lot of crosses in as a result. It felt like a goal was going to arrive, and literally within a 10 minute spell we had scored three. Our first goal was scored by Matthew, at the second attempt, after his initial shot was blocked by a defender, and Jordan added a fantastic second. He was way out when he thumped a looping shot goalwards. Someone in a red and black Barton managers jacket (who could that have been?) shouted at him not to shoot from such distance, but just as this advice was given the ball dropped under the cross bar for goal number two. Hhhhmmm... anyway well done Jordan! Our third goal was steered in expertly by Joseph after he had cut inside from the right wing.
Liam made his debut for us and celebrated accordingly with a late goal as his clinical finish whistled into the net. Man of the match as voted by the parents was Tristan - he surely had his best game in a Barton shirt - and he really was the driving force in midfield. Toby bagged the managers man of the match award - he defended and attacked superbly from the back. Marc did really well across the middle, and he was involved in lots of positive moves forward. Maciej had everything under control in goal, and worked well with the defence in front of him, which included Ryan playing at centreback for some of the game. He's played there before and he looked very assured yesterday. We also welcomed Ross back from injury and he slotted into the team like he'd never been away.
Connor Deeks was his usual committed self, Alex Winn, again looked good on the wing whilst Alex Moulsley was calm as you at left back. Twins Aaron and Clayton did a solid job in central defence with some timely clearances. Leading the line was Nathan who was desperately unlucky not to score this week. The star man for Boyne Hill Hornets was their goalkeeper, who had a great game. He was very assured and caught a lot of balls played through to his penalty area. His goalkicking took the pressure off the Hornets' back line quite a bit.

However, the last word is that our season is well and truly up and running - well done lads.

BARTON ROVERS RAIDERS U13S v AFC NEWBURY
Score: 2 - 3
Two goals in two minutes from striker Nathan Cook failed to prevent Barton Rovers Raiders from going down 3-2 at home to Newbury. Despite falling a goal behind in the second minute.
Cook struck twice soon after to give his side the lead. Barton led for a long period but Newbury took the honours with two identical second half goals, both were curling shots just inside the far post.
Rovers could have grabbed a late equaliser, when Cook had a shot well saved in the dying seconds. Parents man of the match for Barton was goalkeeper Maciej Lipowski, who made some stunning saves.
Matthew Langham, filling in at left back was also impressive, and he received the managers award.

SHERBORNE ST JOHN v BARTON REBELS U10
Score: 1 - 4
A good win today against one of the stronger teams in the league. However we went 1 nil down from a fantastic shot from Sherbornes right midfield player 15 minutes into the game. This is the 3rd game out of 5 in which we have gone 1 nil down, and i feel that we need to start the games a lot stronger as it seems we only start playing when we are up against it, far to often we take on one player to many, or we loose the ball when turning into trouble instead of making an easy pass back and starting again, we must protect possession better or we will find ourselves 1 nil down against a good side who we cant break down.
To the boys credit we got back into the game with 2 quick goals from simple passing moves, the first set up by Oliver Higgs the second by Harry Peters both finished by the impressive Mathew Deadfield, Harry also made some brilliant last ditch tackles chasing back just as it looked like Sherborne must score, 2-1 at half time.
We made some changes at half time and focused on restricting Sherbornes time on the ball and spreading the play wide through Zidan Akers and Harry Peters. The other change was to bring Kai Masuda in at centre back from right midfield asking him to calm us down and stop there counter attacks. Kai has never played in this position before but showed what a good player he is taking the man of the match award, Sherborne had one shot in the second half and every time they tried to clear up field and hit us on the break Kai was there partnered by his brother Ryo to intercept look up and pass the ball into midfield setting up another attack. For all our good work in the second half we managed 2 further goals scored by William Frank and Zidan Akers with credit going to Sherbornes excellent defence and goal keeper.
Top after 5 games, well done boys.

THATCHAM TORNADOES v BARTON REBELS U10S
Score: 1 - 7
We started the game very well and for the first 15 minutes attacked the Thatcham goal hitting the cross bar and the post twice through excellent work from Zidan Akers and Kai Masuda.
However we did not communicate at the back and the midfield did not chase back, often leaving 3 on 2 when Thatcham broke which eventually ended in a Thatcham goal against the run of play.
The boys responded really well to this set back and equalised through a Harry Peters goal which was followed by Kai Masuda scoring his first of the season to put us 2-1 up at half time.
After the break we scored a quick third through the excellent William Frank which was followed by 2 from Oliver Higgs, Harry Peters second of the game and a Mathew Deadfield strike.
Our man of the match was Zidan Akers playing wide right. Zidan caused Thatcham problems for the entire game with his pace and determination, well done Z.

Good performance boys your passing and movement was excellent today.

BARTON ROVERS U14 B v VARIOUS
Score: Various
OH, IT JUST GETS BETTER AND BETTER......UNDER 14B HALF TERM REPORT These were the famous words uttered by a BBC commentator when England thrashed Germany 5 - 1 in a World Cup qualifier a few years back. This season to date has seen the Under 14 B team get "better and better" and our faithful correspondent "Touch Line Dad" while not filing reports on a weekly basis has been keeping on things from a far and now feels compelled to submit his own "Half Term Report". He notes as follows:
Pre Season & Training - has taken on a new lease of life this season with on the whole excellent turn outs and a new feel to what is going on. He is pleased to report that some of the disruptive behaviour of last term has been replaced by a more focused and determined approach with new boys Griggs, Glasgow, Stout, O'Neil all settling in well to their environment. Head Boy Ritchie continues to set a good example on the whole but Joe Giles needs to learn to tie his laces up or faces a possible disciplinary. Youngsters Blake, Burnett and Stout all set an exemplary example on time keeping and enthusiasm as does Zach Smith who has made the left back spot his own so far. George Legg trains like a demon but needs to get out of bed earlier ! Other seniors such as Mackie, Taylor & Twyford continue to set a high standard throughout. First 3 matches - familiar problems from last season emerged - we often played very well but couldn't quite deliver the knock out punch, so end up with a P 3, L 3 record. In all 3 games, we had competed very well and played some great stuff, scored some great goals and probably deserved something from at least 2 of the games - maybe more. Only over at Cold Ash did we really come a bit of a cropper - but even here in my modest opinion, we were the best team for at least 45 minutes. Hmmmmm - we just couldn't turn our good play into good results. After 3 games, Touchline Dad feels the report is "need to do better Barton but hard work will pay dividends".
Next 3 matches - put simply we have been brilliant - 2 wins and a draw have seen us shoot up the table. A great 3 - 3 draw against Thatcham B, or was it A - actually who cares ??? Then 2 really good victories against the other Thatcham team and then against Theale. Young Mr Mackie has done very well, adding another 10 to his first 5 of the season and deserves top marks but this has been a real team effort. One of the most pleasing aspects of this season so far has been the willingness to experiment with new formations - so far we have played 4/4/2 3/5/2 and 4/5/1 - as required with the adventurous 3/5/2 looking maybe our best bet to date. James Williamson has done increasingly well when asked, Ali Young has also done well up front and both are aware of what they need to do in order to force a regular place in the team on a regular basis, and appeared determined to push hard for a place between now and Christmas. 1 or 2 other boys need to show a bit more enthusiasm for what we are doing if they are to transfer their undoubted talent in to a place in the team. But after 6 games, Touch Line Dad feels the report reads "Barton have got the rewards their extra Saturday morning revision classes deserves and go to the top of the class with a gold star".
So many boys have done well in this half term - but a few deserve special commendations: George Legg is goal - a class apart and a huge influence on the rest of the team. Extra mid week revision classes are paying off. Tom Burnett - made a midfield spot his own with a series of high tempo performances. Excellent effort and no little skill. Great attitude and fine goal over at Thatcham B Callum Mackie - 15 goals, 6 games, say no more - even 1 with his left foot ! Good grief. Might even go for a header some time, you never know ! A couple of real crackers here - Theale away - 1st goal - greased lightening. Pity about the boots though. Pete Twyford - solid and reliable at the back. Excellent footballer and great appetite to learn even more. Kieran Glasgow - a real jack in the box start to his time with Barton. A real find and has come out of nowhere to provide real energy up front.
I could go on.....

Next term - Barton should go on to do well but will face plenty of tough tests ahead. If they continue to train hard and play in the way we know they can, I am confident they will get the results they deserve. Well done Barton - you deserve this... Finally - someone tell that Joe Giles to tie his laces up in training will you ?? An impressed "Touch Line Dad"

BARTON ROVERS REBELS U10 v OAKLEY B
Score: 19 - 1
e have been working on passing and moving in training so it was good to see the boys retaining possession with many of our goals coming after 8 - 10 passes.
Oakley are a newly formed team and I'm a bit surprised the league has thrown them in at the deep end, to their credit they battled and closed our players down for the entire 50 minutes, so I hope they keep going.
Thank you to John Staker for refereeing the game, well done boys see you at training.

SHERBORNE ST JOHN A v BARTON REBELS U10
Score: 0 - 6
Great win today against a team unbeaten so far this season who could go top of the Blue division if they win their game in hand.
This was the best team performance of the season, the passing and movement was excellent and we rarely gave away possesion cheaply. Sherborne are a good side so it was very pleasing to see our lads dominate the game from the whistle, we used the full width of the pitch and created many chances.
Again this week we asked some of the lads to play out of there favoured positions, William Frank & Harry Peters proved what a good players they are moving from centre & left midfield to centre back in the second half. Our goals came from the outstanding Zidan Akers(2), Kai Masuda, Oliver Higgs, Harry Peters and George Strong in only his second game for Barton slotted into the team brilliantly.
Our MOTM was our Keeper Ben Gibbs, when Sherborne burst forward on the break Ben was always there saving absolutely everything, shots, crosses, free kicks, he even done a Bruce Grobbelaar dribbling the ball up field tuning the centre forward on the way, well done Ben.
Well done to all 10 boys a great performance.
