Under 11 B

Barton Under 11 travelled across town to defend the Plate Cup won at Woodley Hammers last year in good spirits.

After a slow start, and losing the first two games narrowly 1 - 0 we then shifted into over drive and topped the lot with a win over division 2 rivals Kennet Valley on penalties in the quarter finals.

A further battling display against Woodley Saints in the semis saw us in to the final against local rivals Meadway, where we eventually went down 2 - 0.

But what performance overall, what a day out and what a great set of kids.

Well done to all involved. And we also gave the hot dog van a real hammering too !!

COLTS WON THE MAIN TROPHY FINAL.

Meadway Youth A 0 v 1 COLTS

Colts had a very strong side out for this tournament and fully deserved to win the final.
Colts played some great football today and only conceded 1 goal. Leon Le Croix played well in goal, when called upon. Having a good goalkeeper breeds confidence and with James Schofield controlling things at the back along side the very impressive Joe Webb teams could not break us down, in the middle we had Trevor Mutero and Aaron De Rama who were first class with Roshan Gurung upfront, the football these lads played was a joy to watch.
It was a great day for us as the boys had to put up with a lott of nasty comments(silly parents)but they came through it and won.I am really proud of these boys ,WELLDONE.

Mytchett Tournament

The Girls first trophy as under 10's!

Having played in a friendly league during the season the girls haven't recieved anything for all their hard work so today meant alot to them.

Our first game was against Aldershot who we beat 8-0. Then came Mytchett who we beat 6-0 and the last league game against Sandhurst who we beat 3-0.

So having scored 17 and conceding 0 we finished top of the group to meet Frimley in the semi finals. We won this 2-0 so off to the final we went. 6 minutes played against Camberley and we were 2-0 up but Camberley pulled one back and it took a last minute save from Frances to keep us in it.

The whistle went the girls shook hands and the girls went crazy!!!!

Well done Frances, Chloe (great first goal for us), Jade, Kenzie, Rachel and Shannon you made everyone proud!!!!

Colts ended the season on a high with a good second half performance.

Rohan Wijeratne scored a hat trick and Daniel Lee got the other goal, it should have been more but we missed a host of chances.

Under 10's B - Cup Final

Barton Rovers 8 v 0 Goring Robins

Rovers started the match and both teams showed quickly how keen they were to impress themselves upon the other. Quick closing down, crisp tackles and little space for anyone kept the opening couple of minutes really tight. A good tackle by Goring saw Rovers get a throw down the right. A quick take by Partridge found Rose and he showed good skill and awareness, beat his man and sent a low drive past the Goring keeper to give Rovers the early lead. read more

Colts played with only 8 players and still only got beat 3-1.
Colts played some good football today and were unlucky not to get a draw at least as we looked to attack at all times.

Aaron De Rama scored a stunning volley from outside the box and played with a neck injury,he came on at halftime to help us out,Leon Le Croix had a fantastic game in goal while Bob Dinsey,Sam Oughton and Robert Horne had blinding games at the back. James Schofield, Rohan Wijeratne and Joe Webb were brilliant in midfield and worked so hard while Leighton Davis battled on.

This week I want to mention my defenders,Sam Oughton played a quallity game today and covered everyone,Robert Horne is playing really well with comeback kid Billy Gager sittng in well beside him and also Bob Dinsey who has really worked hard on his game and it is showing .Goalkeeper Leon Le Croix is playing beyond himself.David Cessworth came back today aswell and put in a big game for us, as for the other boys well they were good very good. In a tight game both teams had a few chances to win the game but a draw was a fair result on reflection.

With 4 minutes left Joel Burton broke through and calmly chipped the keeper to send us into our first ever final

Nice that the referee came over a complimented us and Whitley were also very sporting and wished us well

CUP SEMI FINAL: Laurel Park 0 v 4 COLTS

Colts played really well today and were well worth the win. After hitting five last week against Goring(Roshan Gurung hit 4 in our 9-2 win) Aaron DE Rama hit another 4 today. All the boys were superb. We only had 10 players playing today and did they fight out there , Aaron was on fire with Roshan showing really well. In midfield captain Rohan Wijeratne, Joe Webb, motm Daniel Lee were fantastic while James Schofield played between midfield and defence and had a massive game for us, Sam Oughton, Bob Dinsey and Robert Horne were brilliant and keeper Leon Le Croix was pure quality throwing himself at everything.

Today I saw a bunch of lads who gave all they had for each other the team spirit was awesome. And as for me I am as proud as punch.WELL DONE.

Barton Rovers 1 v 2 Kennet Valley

The temperature didn't look too bad and the sun was shining but the wind made it really cold this morning. This was going to be a big game for both teams, the Swords were looking to sew up the Division 2 title and Rovers were hoping to keep their hopes - albeit mathematically - alive too.

Swords started and both teams got going very quickly. Swords fashioned the first chance but the final shot ran out of strength and was easily picked up by Rovers keeper. At the opposite end of the park the story was the same, a well crafted chance but the shot didn't carry enough power to bother the Swords keeper. read more

This game could have been called the DeRama and Gurung show because Aaron scored 5 and Roshan scored 4 and boy did they frighten Goring, but it was'nt because we had quallity all over the field today.

Goalkeeper Leon Le Croix saved a penalty, James Scho had another blinding game as did Rohan Wijeratne Joe Webb and Leighton Davis just got better as the game went on. We were 3-0 up at half time and fair play to Goring pulled it back to 3-2 but the boys went into another gear and scored another 6 goals.

Laurel Park 1 Barton Rovers 4.

This was a cold day with a lot of windy conditions to contend with.
James won the toss and decided to play with the wind, this all started off well and Barton scored with Arron getting it, we controlled the whole first half with further goals from Arron and James.

In the second half we had to defend well and had to make 2 substitutions with Sam going into goal and Ashley replacing Chris H who fell ill, but we battled on with Laurel scoring from a corner and we then from the kick off went up the other end and scored through Patrick. This is how it remained for the rest of the game.
Well done Jonathon that goal will come just have patience, who hit the bar twice.

The team were Sam, Ashley, Chris H, Mark S, Jonathon, Connor, Paul, Chris A, James A, Vik, Daniel, Patrick & Arron.

Colts won this match thanks to a great strike from Joe Webb and the goalkeeping of Leon Le Croix With James Scho playing well at the heart of the defence along side Robert Horne,Bob Dinsey and Sam Oughton.

We had to change our midfield as captain Rohan Wijeratne could not play. Aaron DeRama went into midfield along side Leighton Davis, Daniel Lee and young Joe Webb and all had to battle hard Roshan Gurung played upfront on his own and did very well whilst Stuart Craig came in and let no one down. In the end I was happy to come out of that one with a victory in our local derby. I am hopeing that David Chesworth and Billy Gager will be back soon and with a cup semi final on the way I can bring them in. Thatcham Tornadoes 2 v 2 Barton Rovers

This game was close in the first half. Bartons Josh Shurvill opening the scoring with a thunderous drive against the wind from 25 yards out. Thatcham equalised soon after to make it all square at half time. It was mostly one way traffic in the second half with a repeat goal from Shurvill to make it two one. However the sending off of Antonio for swearing in the second half spured Barton on and were really unlucky when Thatcham equalized agaist the run of play at the end of the game.

Under 14's B

Barton Rovers 4 v 2 Whiteknights

The first 15 minutes of the game Barton played some of the best football they have played all season. But were only able to score 1 goal through Patrick, even though we had the wind. Whiteknights then came back at us and were rewarded with an equaliser. At half-time the score was 1-1.
After a team talk at half-time the boys did not seem to have changed much and still appeared to be asleep.
Then they suddenly got a hurry up call from the touchline to play better and start challenging for the ball and feel more confident about themselves, in the next 10 minutes they scored a further 3 goals from Arron and 2 from Daniel. Whiteknights got a late consolution goal and it fininshed 4-2.
We only had 12 players so well done to everyone. We must keep it up, 3 big games coming up with a semifinal place as well.
Team were -: Ashley,Connor,Mark, Jonathon,Chris,Paul,James,Vik,Daniel, Patrick,Arron and Tom.

The game started with Barton pushing forward and creating sustained pressure on the hosts for most of the first half, but without scoring. At the end of the first half Newbury scored a great goal against the run of play.

In the second half the game could have gone either way, Barton could not find the net with their chances Newbury did hence the slightly flattering scoreline.

Barton Rovers 3 v 0 Woodley Rovers

This was the Quarter Final of the Cup season, after beating a 2nd division team in the last round, we drewe another 2nd division team.
In the first 15 minutes it was hard with Woodley attacking but the defence held out well, then a beautiful break from defence via Connor to Danny and then to Patrick who hit a beautiful shot and scored, then Barton had control of the game with Woodley losing their discipline and style, Barton then scored another via Vik. It was 2 - 0 at halftime.
In 2nd half Woodley attacked but Barton controlled the game with a lovely pass from Vik to James who took it down the left wing and then crossed it in to Vik who slid in to put in the 3rd goal. Barton then held on to win 3- 0.

Earley Predators 2 v 1 Barton Rovers

Colts struggled to field a team today with injuries and commitments being the main problem but I have to say we played well and were unlucky to come away with nothing.

Roshan Gurung opened the scoring for us and we led up to half time playing neat football on the ground. Predators had a more physical aproach in the second half which is why I only had eight players able to walk off the pitch afterwards. Predators scored on a break away the ball lobbed over midfield their lad controlled the ball (with his hand?) and bang 1-1(REFEREE!).

The weather opened up and there was some naughty stuff going on out there with Robert Horne bruising his ribbs and ankle in one bad challenge. Leighton Davis carried on playing but it was obvious he could not run after another big hit.

With Aaron DeRama and young Joe Webb showing up in midfield along side Daniel Lee and the defence of the impressive James Schofield, Sam Oughton and Bob Dinsey we looked well in control.

Stuart Craig playing his first game of the season was working hard so it was a suprise when we conceeded again, the impressive Leon Le Croix made another fine save but as he made it he slid on the terrible surface into the upright hurting himself the ball squirmed out and they banged it in as our boys stopped.

Barton Rovers 7 v 0 Aldershot Girls

Aldershot only managed to get 6 girls so we matched them and only put six out too.

The game got off very slowly but Rachel eventually put a cross in for Jade to put us 1-0 up.

The girls eventually got back to their normal selves and created chance after chance with little for our 1st half goalie Ellen to do and our 2nd half goalie Rachel to do.

The goal of the game was Ellens "cross" (well thats what she called it), she crossed it over and it flew passed everyone and in to the top corner leaving everyone speechless, what a cracker!!!

So overall a good game even though it was one of our poorer games we still managed to win by a margin but credit to Aldershot for never giving up.

Under 9s Girls

An update on the under 9 Girls and Harry.

We have been playing in the boys divsion on a Saturday since the start of September.

We started the season with only 4 experienced players (Jasmine, Pippa, Kelly and Beth).

Then we had the newcomers Rosie, Lauren, Chloe and Rebecca and 3 under 8 newcomers which are Georgia and Anastasia and our under 8 goalie Harry. During the season the girls and Harry have improved and impressed a lot.

We have won 6 drew 3 and lost 6. There are two girls teams in our division in which the girls have won against but the girls prefer playing against the boys and have beaten 3 boys teams and have also drawn against a couple. This does cause upset but what can we say girls are offically better than boys. (Note from webmaster - not sure if this is true or not!)

Well done to you all and lets keep the effort going and the smiles on your face.

We then defended well with Ben in goal pulling off some relly good saves. At halftime the boys rallied again and listened to the new instructions given.

Twyford came out fighting and were more physical in this half but once again Barton held strong and even had numerous chances to increase the lead.

AFC Whitchurch 2 COLTS 17

This was a very impressive display by the colts with Aaron De Rama leading the way with a double hatrick, Leighton Davis with five, Roshan Gurung with four, Robert Horne one and young Joe Webb one.

All the boys played their part, Leon Le Croix kept goal well and had no chance with the goals Whitchurch scored as Colts fell asleep for ten minutes, but we kicked on and our attacking display warranted the goals we scored.

James Schofield had a good game in the centre of midfield with Daniel Lee showing well to, Roshan along side Aaron and Leighton had blinding games while young Joe took the MOTM award.

At the back captain Sam Oughton had an assured game while Billy Gager was solid as was Robert Horne who seems to be getting better with every game at right back which leaves David Chesworth who I thought pushed Joe all the way for MOTM award, a very good performance.

A fantastic match between two commited sides.

Both teams played really well and a draw would have been a fair result, Colts hit the crossbar twice and Ian's A team had chances too.

Roshan scored 1 and Aaron scored the other with David being voted man of the match for the Colts

.Roshan and Aaron were causing all sorts of mischief upfront while Robert Whitehouse was a rock at the back for Ian's team. In midfield Roe, Joe, Leighton and Daniel worked hard against a very good "A" midfield, at the back we had to reshuffle with James Schofield going into centre of defence and David Chesworth going to left back both alongside Robert and Sam played their part with some great defending while Leon Le Croix had a good game in goal also sub Bob Dinsey did well too.

All in all Colts gave the "A" team a really hard game and I am proud of you all.

Another fine display from ten boys. Early Barton pressure paid off when Prince went on a run and went all the way and slotted it home nicely to make it one nil at half time. In the second half Antonio scored a great goal from an acute angle to make it two.

Burghfield Boys 0 v 4 Barton Rovers

We only have 10 players in our squad, yet we can produce performances like this today.
It started with our team ( of just 10 ) going all out to work hard for each other and battle for every ball and within minutes it was obvious we were going to score, it came after many chances created but finally Ryan Vickery put the ball in the net to make it one nil.

Soon after Antonio scored a great goal after some wonderfull build up play. Jack Currey then made a great interception and crossed a great ball in, which was finished in style by Louis.

The second half saw Burfield really come at us but our defence of Jake,James & Ross were magnificent and held out to keep a clean sheet. Sam had a fantastic game on the right wing and did every thing but score, Ryan wrapped up the points ten minutes from the end after more Barton pressure.

Big thanks to Prince going in goal in the first half and Louis going in, in the second half.

The boys thought they were in for an easy ride but as you can see from the scoreline that wasn't to be! Calcot got a shock of their lives when after 2 mins we were one nil up. This made the boys up their tempo and they soon got 2 back., but with sheer determination the girls got one back to level the scores. Just before the first half drew to a close the boys grabbed one more to go in 2 - 3.

Soon after the second half started the boys got another one but as like last season the girls never dropped their heads and with clever passing got one back. So the score being 4-3 to the boys, the girls were still not letting the boys take it easy, the boys then got lucky to get another, but the girls got another one back.

With five minutes remaining the girls were looking for that equaliser but it didn't seem to come so the boys won 5-4, but what an exciting and entertaining game it was.

WELL DONE GIRLS AND BOYS!!! a big thankyou to Calcot for giving us a game and to their manager for refereeing.

A sunny but cool day and South Reading start the game looking very determined after the previous meeting between the teams ended in Rovers favour. Colts produced another good performance after coming back from being 3-0 down. Roshan led the way with another 5 goal haul and another excellent display. Aaron netted himself a hatrick while m.o.t.m Rohan scored the other.

All the boys played well after a very sluggish start, in the end though, our quallity shone through and we deserved the win.

WELL DONE BOYS.

Thanks to Peter,Kev and Paul for helping with the nets and Rob for being ref, Asanka for running the line. Sorry for the stick you received from the opposition but I really appreciate all youre help.

Barton Rovers 6 v 1 Cookham Dean

Today we bounced back in style cruising into the next round of the Berks & Bucks Cup.

We dominated from the start creating chance after chance with great passing and moving from everyone, Louis had alot of success on the left as did Prince and Jack on the right.

Josh Shurvill ruled midfield and Ryan Vickery had a great game playing behind the striker. It was Ryan who opened the scoring after early pressure, followed by Sam & Louis.

In the second half a belter from Josh Shurvill another solo run by Prince and a goal from James sealed a great win. A lapse in the last minute let in Cookham to score a very well taken goal.

Well done all of you this was a great performance.

Laurel Park 2 v 2 Barton Rovers

This turned out to be a tough match as seen by the scoreline, but a few decisions went against us throughout the match.

The boys played well with 2 new faces playing the 1st half, Ashley and Chris Audley, the boys struggled and puffed and panted throughout, but the Laurel defence and keeper kept us out.

Eventually Arron got through and scored the first goal. Laurel then came forward and scored an equaliser and kept on attacking and eventually scored another to go in at halftime at 2-1.

In the second half Barton showed more aggression towards the game and eventually they earned a free kick whisch Arron took and scored an equaliser.

The game ended 2- 2, with Jonathon Burgess Man of the Match.

Today I was able to play my strongest team for the first time this season and boy did it show.

Roshan up front with Aaron were brilliant with Roshan netting 5 and Aaron 2 supported by Joe ,David, captain Rohan and Leighton who scored 2.

The boys won midfield hands down and from our point of veiw they were fantastic creating chances for themselves and the forwards while at the back Sam, Billy, James and Robert were outstanding pushing the ball into midfield and playing football along the ground but mixing it when needed not forgetting goalkeeper Leon who was composure itself.

Sub Daniel came on and did not let his team mates down.

Meadway wanted to win, we didnt.

That was the case and as a result we had three boys leave. We will now finish the season with ten boys who want to play football.

Barton Rovers B 3 v 1 Whiteknights

The only team to have beaten us this season came to play us at Turnhams Farm.
Unfortunately 5 minutes before the game we found out we had no goalkeeper, but young Ashley Davy stepped forward and volunteered.
We were 3rd in the league, and the boys wanted revenge for the defeat. The boys started off very quickly and Patrick scored after 2 minutes. The boys played some very good football all through the 1st half, but could not break down some very good defending and goalkeeping by the Whiteknights defence.
At the start of the 2nd half, whiteknights got past our defence and scored an equaliser, but the boys lifted their heads and just started to attack Whiteknights and eventually Arron scored a second and then Mark Driver scored a third goal. The game ended 3 - 1.
The boys were then top of the league again, and are playing fantastic, keep it up to Christmas. Well Done.

MOM - Ashley Davy for being a brave goalkeeper for the 1st time.

Springfield 2 v 4 Barton Rovers

We came out the blocks really quick today and put a lot of pressure on Springfield who struggled to get out of their half for the first twenty mins and the pressure paid off when Prince leathered a shot in after a great corner from Josh Shurvill. We went two nil up later in the half on a quick break, a good defensive header, held up well by Antonio who then put a great ball through to Alex who finished in style. Just before half time Springfield won a penalty for a push in the box and scored despite Luke nearly saving it.

Second half and again we pushed and it paid off when Antonio stabbed home after he hassled well. Springfield were then awarded another what for this time none of us knew but they made it 3 - 2 last ten mins and Prince thumped a lob shot from outside the box and it floated in nicely to give us a well deserved win. Barton dominated this game from start to finish. The first goal came from a Josh Shurvill free kick over everybody to an unmarked Louis on the far post who volleyed home in style.

Louis scored again when he headed in a corner only for it to be ruled out by the ref who spotted some pushing. Despite pinning Calcot in their own half for long periods of the game we missed a host of chances and let Calcot score from a corner to send the game into extra time.

Barton Rovers 3 v 1 Theale Tigers

This was a Clash of the Titans, the top 2 teams in the league, a referee was nominated for the match by the Referee secretary. It was cold, wet and heavy on the foot.

The Barton boys started of like they really wanted to win the game, after 2 minutes, the boys passed the ball down the left wing and eventually Arron scored the goal, then Theale came back and scored an equaliser. The Barton boys lifted their game again and Jordan hit a cracker(possibly goal of the season) to make it 2-1, Barton attacked again with Patrick down the right wing who hit the bar and the rebound fell to Mark Driver who put it away to make it 3-1 at half time.

The second half started with Theale who had the wind, they were attacking all the time but Barton's midfield of James and Vic were strong and dominated the midfield, if Theale got through the boys in defence Chris H, Mark S, Jonathon and Connor never gave Theale a shooting chance. Sam played well in goal with some good kicks out to the players. Barton also had some good chances to score as well, but Theale's goalkeeper played very well.

Full time the score was still 3-1. Barton are now top of the league with 5 wins out of five. Thank you for all the support from the parents, the boys appreciate it. Well done to Rob. The boys gave their all for the team and Ashley and Chris A who were substitutes were ready to take their places if required.

Theale Tigers 0 v 1 Barton Rovers

The scene was set for a tense encounter with Theale Tigers coming into the fixture unbeaten this season and Barton whose fortunes had improved from the opening day looking to continue their unbeaten run of three straight wins. The traveling fans would not be disappointed in a thrilling edgy game laced with controversy.

Both teams got off to a bright start with Barton testing the Theale defence early on with shots in from Kent and David. Goal Keeper Nichols was called upon to pull off some good saves from Theale pressure; Barton’s defence doing a good job of restricting Theale to a number of long range efforts. The stalemate was broken ten minutes in as a through ball down the left from Ally saw Kent skip past the Theale defence as if it were invisible firing home……GOALLLLLLLL……

Within the next two minutes the referee in what can only be described as pantomime farce stopped with a query about whether our goal scorer should be wearing glasses….5 minutes later after much discussion the game continues, with continued pressure at both ends.

The second half sees a midfield battle as Theale go close with free kick which rattles the crossbar and Nichols is then called into action tipping over the bar. At the final whistle Barton take the three points in a hard fought battle, equalling Theale’s points at the top of the table.

Kennet Valley 1 v 0 Barton Rovers

What can I say about this game....Well if this was a boxing match the ref would have stopped it. We hit the crossbar/post three times had the ball cleared of the line three times and missed a host of chances. With a new partnership of Aaron DeRama and Roshan Gurung upfront colts looked good value to score supported by an ever improving midfield of man of the match Leighton Davis, Rohan Wijeratne, Joe Webb and David Chessworth the link up play and movement was superb and behind them defenders James Schofield, Billy Gager, Robert Horne and the ever improving Sam Oughton (who was unlucky not to have been named motm) played some really good football not forgetting goalkeeper Leon Le Croix who had yet another steady game also sub Harley Gale who did a fine job when he came on.

While we may well have got beat and I know how much it hurts the boys we must take the positives out of the game and for me there were plenty. We got caught by a sucker punch and we just could'nt put the ball away yet on another day we could of won by seven or eight and it is going to happen soon we are playing the right way good football on the ground....Well Done Boys YOU DID NOT DESERVE TO GET BEAT TODAY...but it's a funny old game.
A Big thanks to me bro Paul for running the line (as the boys Dads in my team havent got the bottle to do it) more help is needed if this team is to continue as I cant do it all myself (not including Peter and Rob who always put themselves out) but at this rate I can't see it. Another super performance by an ever improving Barton C team, against a well organised ,strong Kennet Valley side. We then had an even 5 minutes before Kennet scored their second from the penalty spot, despite a brave effort from Luke Hill in the Barton goal.

The 2nd half was evenly contested with both sides going close, some superb goalkeeping from Hill and some resolute defending from Bell, Stead, Schofield and Ward helped keep the 2-1 scoreline intact. Some teriffic attacking play from Giles, Winn, Cassidy , Smith and Mistry nearly bought the scores level. The commencement of the second half saw three changes to Barton who battled in search of the fifth goal, Meadway seem to grow in confidence with some tremendous battles in defense between George Lewington and the Meadway Striker. Meadway continued to press and Barton nearly concede to a lobbed shot but, a goal line clearance from Raees Ally saw the danger averted. The danger signs are there for Barton to see as Meadway mange to score a consolation goal in the final 10 minutes.

Kennet Valley Bullets 7 - 1 Barton Rovers

After such a good team performance last week, it was disappointing to lose this match so heavily. We were on the back foot from the very first minute when a right wing cross drifted goalwards and into the top corner of the net. And that then set the tone for the rest of the game,a nd they attacked us almost at will. Kennet Valley Bullets are clearly a good side - they haven't lost a 40 minute game for 2 years, so it will take a fantastic effort to take the points off them. We were 5-0 down at half time, and the players were shell shocked. In the second half Marc made a couple of fabulous saves to keep the score down. Defensively we were shutting them down much better and restricted them to mainly long range efforts.

With about 10 minutes to go we scored a fantastic goal with Matthew, Connor and Michael all involved in a great move down the left hand side. Michael finished coolly for his second goal of the season.

Jordan was man of the match for his closing down in the second half. Well done lads for battling harder in the second half.

Westwood Wanderers 0 v 2 Barton Rovers

A brace from Adam Kent gave Barton all three points in a thrilling away win against Westwood Wanderers. Barton started brightly putting Westwood under early pressure, some good breaks down the wing from Adam Kent and intelligent link up play up and movement up front from Peter Twyford, Luke David and Jordan Blake saw plenty of early shots, with Barton keeping their shape and using the width of the pitch. The deadlock was broken 15 minutes in with a deflected corner from Kent.GOAL....one nil !! The final 5 minutes of the half saw Westwood push on for an equalizer but Barton weather the storm; with an unfortunate headed clearance seemingly goal bound hit the crossbar and almost 30 seconds later certain goal bound shot cleared off the line by the same defender.

The second half saw Barton under pressure from the start , five minutes on Zach Smith on for George Lewington and Ricky Elliston on for Jordan Blake, Barton slowly got back into the game as we continued to push for the second in a spell that sees a narrowly missed free kick from Luke Hood. Late in the second half Adam Kent breaks from the midfield and 5 metres from the penalty area is brought down, as Westwood sort of the wall, Kent takes a quick free kick and blasts wide; the whistle blows and Barton are given a second bite of the cherry , Kent steps up again and this time makes no mistake blasting in the re-take.GOAL !!!! Credit to Westwood who continue to press for a goal as Barton desperately get bodies behind the ball and defend; with the keeper called in to action to deal with the goal mouth pressure.

At the final whistle in a competitive end to end game we had earned ourselves our second victory through a real team effort, from the defensive work of Liam, Raees, Zach and our throw in specialist George, and the attacking efforts of Adam, Luke, Peter, Jordan and Ricky... WELL DONE BOYS !! Thanks once again to Stan running the line, John on touchline and Vicky for the Oranges.

Barton Rovers 1 v 2 South Reading A

Err... deja vu! For the second time in a week we took a 1 goal lead only to lose the match 2-1. This week we were up against South Reading A, who beat us 6-1 last season, when we were with our old club. Today was a much closer affair and a draw would have been a fair result.

Our goal came from a great run by Connor down the right wing. He cut in and beat 2 players before firing in a cross low and right in front of the goal. The ball deflected off a South Reading defender and we were 1 up!

That's how it stayed until about 5 minutes into the 2nd half when a superb strike from South Reading brought the game level. A deflected shot won the game for them but we could have easily snatched a draw.

But it wasn't to be. Matthew Langham was the parents choice for man of the match - well done Matthew. Meanwhile there were fantastic performances from Alex Moulsley who ran him close and Tristan Evans - both at the back - and Michael Drake who played well up front. Marc Langham in goal had a good game and could do nothing about the 2 goals.

Henley Boys 0 v 3 Barton Rovers

What a difference a week makes, after tasting the bitter pill of defeat of last week we faced the mighty Henley Boys B, both teams suffering a defeat in their opening games and looking for their first win !!

The game kicked to off with Barton making a bright start, some good runs down the wing by play maker Adam Kent with a number of good shots from Peter Twyford and Luke David on goal however we failed to the net and break the deadlock. 15 minutes in Luke David and Raees Ally came off to make way for George Lewington and Ben Hopkins. After all our early possession and shots, Henley started to get back into the game with Liam Nicholls making a number of key saves to keep us in the game, the drama continuing as Ben Hopkins cleared off the line just before half time.

An unchanged lineup in the second half failed to turn the tide, five minutes in Peter Twyford made way for the re-invigorated Luke David and Raees Ally back on for Zach Smith. The fresh legs seemed make the difference to flagging Henley with a superbly struck goal from Captain Luke David after Jordan Blake battled after a seemingly lost ball. Jordan added a second after bundling in an Adam Kent cross and Luke David struck again late in the second with a rasping shot making it 3.0 Barton Rovers !!

In summary some good attacking play in which we used the whole width of the pitch, and some strong defensive work resulting in a clean sheet.

Well done lads a real team effort !!………..

Many thanks to Stan for running the line, John L for his touchline support and Vicky for the oranges !!

Barton A 7 v 0 Barton Colts

I don't really know what to say about this game, but I will try.

First of all I must say well done to James Schoefield for going in goal for our injured goalkeeper Leon Le Croix who hurt himself last week.

Right, 34 minutes gone and things are looking good, James doing good in goal, Rohan, Leighton, Joe, David in midfield ticking along good. Aaron going well up front, defence not really troubled and I am waiting for the whistle to blow, then low and behold a right nightmare! A defender does not clear gets pushed of the ball too easily and 1-0 GREAT.

Second half....Well we all know what happened six more goals and I am of down the pub to forget about it. Well done to Ian and his lads they are a good bunch and I wish them well even though 7 nil was a bit harsh on us, PS does anyone know a brick layer I can sign on FOR MY DEFENCE who were the weakest link goodnight.

AFC Newbury 2 v 1 Barton Rovers

A very good match this one. This game swung from one end to the other and could have gone either way. Newbury drew first blood from a poor goal kick they controlled then lobbed our keeper, at that point against the run of play.

We battled hard and drew level from hard work up the wing from Prince a great cross that Antonio finished off very well.In the second half early Barton pressure resulted in Sam hitting the bar and was unlucky not to score, late pressure from Newbury saw an up and under somehow drop in under the bar to win the match. We did not deserve to lose today.

Woodley Wanderers 2 v 3 Barton Rovers

This was our first competitive game of the season as it was a very physical affair. The first 15mins of the game Woodley kicked and tackled very hard and the team were having problems playing the smooth football they have been showing recently.

Woodley eventually got the 1st goal, but we started to pass the ball around and we finally got our 1st goal of the season from Patrick who has just joined the team. That was how it stood at half-time.

After a hard team talk the boys went out and played very well the second half, unfortunately Woodley hit us on the break and scored to make it 2-1, the boys just then dug in and played the ball around beautifully, and eventually Vik got a well deserved equaliser.

The next 10 mins the boys showed their fitness and strength and they pushed Woodley into their half and after many good shots and saves from the Woodley keeper, Aaron received a through ball and chipped the oncoming keeper to make it 3-2,

We had lots of other chances but could not score. We won 3-2 and the whole team played with pride and passion and every one of the boys were heroes (even though there are a lot of bruises and sore legs to show for it). Well done

Theale Tigers B 5 v 3 Barton Rovers

We had an excellent start, being 2-0 up at half time.

In the second half Theale came out all guns blazing. There were a number of areas where an official referee may have made different decisions all of which made it difficult to concentrate on the football we were trying to play.

The boys got disheartened and despite our best efforts we lost. But with the fighting spirit I hope it shines when we play Caversham Trents this Sunday.

Eldon Celtic Lions 6 v 1 Barton Rovers

A very disappointing game for Barton this, apart from the first twenty minutes of the game, when a couple of runs up the left wing led to corners, we never troubled Eldon at all. Most of our team were not up for this game and it showed. Massive improvement needed for next week.

Barton Rovers 4 v 4 AFC Whitchurch

Colts played some great football today, scoring two goals in the first half through Aaron and Leighton and to be honest it should have been a lot more. Then it happens, half time. Out come the lads and it is back to 2-2 and our keeper (Leon) is on the way to casualty because the pitch is so bad he hurts himself. James Schofield goes in goal to help out the team and yesss back in front 3-2 thanks to Leighton's cross which comes of their player into the net. Then 4-2 Robert scores a screamer, Oohh happy days NOT! Our defence then go home ten minutes early and before we know it 4-4 and a draw. How? I don't know, but yes we did throw it away.

WELL DONE JOE, AND A SPEEDY RECVERY TO LEON, THANKS JAMES FOR HELPING ME AND YOUR TEAM MATES OUT. MIDFIELD FANTASTIC. training 9.30 sat prompt.

Theale B 0 v 2 Barton Rovers

An excellent start for the boys at 11 a side football.

Stephen Penney set up 4 goals two of which were disallowed. Joel Burton made sure of the points latching on to these passes and slotting home.

Jordan Atkinson and Joe Ling had superb games at left and right back

Barton Rovers 0 v 1 Cold Ash

Expectations were running high with the opening game of the season, Barton started positive with nearly all the possession in the first half restricting Cold Ash to only a few attacks during the first 20 minutes. Unfortunately we were unable to capitalize on all the possession with only four shots on goal. Second half started brightly with some nice passing moves producing a few shots more shots on goal, Cold Ash then slowly came back in ; a penalty area incident awarded Cold Ash a spot kick which Liam brilliantly saved (well done Liam !!) to keep us in the game. Deep in the second half Cold Ash broke down the middle and fired in…..1.0 down. Credit to the lads heads stayed up and we continued to battle, unfortunate not find the equalizer by the final whistle.

In summary some good performances by the boys with a few areas to work on in training during the week, with maybe the final result going against the run of play !!

A big thank you to John L for running the line, John G for refereeing and those who helped with the nets !!

Next week Henley away...

Barton Rovers 4 v 0 Burghfield Boys

This was a very good team performance against a decent Burghfield side. I think our 4-0 win was fully deserved but credit must go to both teams for a fair but hard fought contest which was well refereed by Simon Hinsley. Sam Ellis scored our first goal with a terrific left foot shot into the bottom corner to put us one up at half time. Ben Partridge scored two quick goals in the second half, one of which was a thunderbolt from the edge of the box.

Our fourth goal was a pleasure to watch as Brandon Sheldon was a great tackle in his own half which fell to Ben P who in turn played a nice ball inside to the captain Harry Rose, Harry who had a very good game controlled it looked up and found Sam Ellis on the left. After some impressive foot work by Sam he crossed in for Charlie Robbins who made no mistake and drilled the ball into the back of the net. Great Team Goal!!!

A special mention must also go to Nick Dyer, Jon Davies and our goalkeeper Aaron Watkins who kept a clean sheet and all had good games. One player I was pleased for was Benjamin Hinsley who came on as sub to make his first appearance in a competitive league match and he acquitted himself very well.
